Over Columbus Day weekend, we went camping on Danforth Bay in Freedom, NH. I awoke in the morning and left our tent in the 30 degree weather to take our dog for a walk.
As we approached the water, I noticed the sun starting to shine through the mist revealing the still of the morning on the lake. I quickly went back to our tent to get my camera. I was taking pictures of the sunrise over the lake when a bird flew over my head. I watched as the bird, a Cormorant, landed on a float near a Herring Gull, giving me a “picture perfect” opportunity.
This was my first attempt at capturing mist on the water and because of the time in the morning, the position of the sun was low and obscured; the lighting was not very bright. I setup my tripod and began shooting. After awhile I could not feel my fingers. I decided that I should go get a hot cup of coffee so I headed back to our campsite.
A Nikon D90 with Quantaray 70-200 mm lens set at a focal length of 135 mm was used. This shot was a 1/40 second exposure with an F stop of 8 and the ISO was set to 320, taken on a tripod using a timed delay shutter (I do not have the remote….yet.)
